James Peipon is a jazz vibist, classical percussionist, and composer/arranger in many varying styles based out of Salisbury, MD. While still in high school, James' family moved from Salisbury, Maryland to Kiev, Ukraine where his eyes were opened to a very serious, professional classical music scene.  At 18 he was accepted to the P.I. Tchaikovsky National Ukrainian Academy of Music.  While at the Academy of Music, James enjoyed success and was honored by being offered featured roles in many concerts and becoming a member of their Student Percussion Ensemble and Student Symphonic Orchestra.

Besides percussion performance, James also studied jazz and composition with his teachers at the Academy of Music. Several of his original compositions and arrangements for solo vibraphone have become part of the percussion curriculum at the Academy of Music.

At age 20 James was invited to join the Ukrainian National Philharmonic Orchestra becoming one of the youngest members in its history. While working as a percussionist in the Philharmonic orchestra, James was able to play with many world-class musicians during the regularly scheduled concerts in Kiev's Philharmonic hall and also had the privilege of touring through Germany, Japan, Switzerland, France, Poland and Ukraine.

James graduated from the Academy of Music at 23 with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in percussion performance with the Academy's highest honors and an invitation to continue study in their very competitive and prestigious graduate program. That invitation, as well as the invitation to continue performing with the National Philharmonic Orchestra, were offers that were turned down to study with the world-class faculty at Berklee College of Music.

In early 2009 James arrived at Berklee as a vibraphone principal and had the privilege of studying with some of the best mallet teachers in the United States including Ed Saindon, Gustavo Agatiello and Grammy award-winning Dave Samuels.

Now back in Salisbury, MD, James continues to regularly perform in different ensembles including Salisbury-based jazz quartet “Sideways”, and teaches all types of drums and percussion, mallet instruments, piano, and improvisation as availability allows throughout the Delmarva Peninsula.
